Abstract

Tana Toraja Regency as one of the regions in South Sulawesi is one of the areas that holds a variety of wealth, both in the nature of natural wealth and cultural wealth and customs that always fill every space in traditional activities contained in the Tana Toraja community and is an attractive tourist destination for tourists to not only be visited once. The existence of tourist activities is certainly always closely related to souvenirs. But to get souvenirs in Tana Toraja is still sold separately and spread out. Many craftsmen produce and sell their handicrafts in their respective homes. So that when tourists will buy handicrafts as souvenirs they will spend a lot of time on the trip just to visit one craftsman and another to shop. In addition, there is no container that can fulfill the commercial and educational functions of Tana Toraja handicrafts and souvenirs. These are the two reasons for the need for a container in the form of a Handicraft and Souvenir Center in Tana Toraja Regency. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. This research was conducted with the aim of knowing how to apply the characteristics of Neo Vernacular Architecture to the building of the Handicraft and Souvenir Center in Tana Toraja Regency so that it is hoped that in the future this concept can inspire other buildings not to forget the traditional values that are owned in order to become a characteristic. By applying the Neo-Vernacular approach to the craft center, it is expected to be able to add characteristics to the building. Seeing the many uniqueness of the Tana Toraja district.
