Application of the space frame structure in the planning of Art and Culture Gallery in Makassar

Abstract

In Makassar City the number of activities related to arts and culture has increased quite rapidly. However, in terms of facilities and infrastructure in Makassar City there are very few places that can accommodate arts and culture activities. The Arts and Culture Gallery is presented as centralized place that can accommodate various arts and cultures activities. An Arts and Culture Gallery requires a spacious space program that is free from columns while demanding a unique shape as a cultural icon and attraction. The problem is how to determine the right space frame structure for the Art and Culture Gallery building in Makassar City. The application of the space frame structure system is carried out especially on the roof of the building. This study was carried out using a pragmatic method, namely a systematic, rational, and analytical discussion method by describing and visualizing the object of study based on predetermined literature and standards. By conducting a study of the application of the space frame structural system in the Art and Culture Gallery building, it is hoped that we will obtain a design for the art and culture gallery that is accordance with the capacity and function that will be accommodated and it will be possible to determine tha appropriate application of the sace frame structure system for the Art and Culture Gallery facilities in Makassar City.
