Abstract

The development of the Selayar Islands Regency is increasing and is still sustainable for a long time, especially in terms of emphasis on administrative areas. Selayar Islands Regency as a province of South Sulawesi still has economic potential to continue to develop, this is triggered by the increasing population and economic growth in the city of Makassar. The Benteng Traditional Market is included in the class I market which facilitates shopping activities in the Selayar Islands Regency. The advantage of the Benteng Traditional Market is its strategic location and is located in the middle of the city close to public facilities and offices. While the drawbacks that are a problem are the narrowness of the shopping space, the circulation between visitors is inadequate because the small circulation is used as a place to put merchandise and a place to make transactions, the space in the building such as the ceiling, floor, and walls is already fragile, besides the facade on the building looks unattractive and dull, the roof of the building has leaked a lot, there is no clear zoning for the placement of dry and wet traders which causes the smell of the market to be mixed and the emphasis of the Benteng Traditional Market is redesigning the Benteng Traditional Market with an emphasis on the building's facade using architectural style vernacular. Therefore, the traditional market really needs to be redesigned to restore the market's image in terms of the visual aesthetic of the facade so that it becomes an attraction for visitors and buyers to come and feel comfortable while in the traditional market.
